The Alabama State Department of Education encourages certified Alabama teachers to expand their knowledge and instructional skills through continuing education and professional development. Alabama requires teachers to continue their teacher training and consider PLUs (Professional Learning Units) as the main measure of teacher development.
The renewal process includes completing an application and choosing among different options, such as earning academic credits and professional development.
Model Teaching offers both high-quality Professional Development Courses, relevant to most teaching license subjects as well as courses provided through regionally-accredited institutions and university partners. We encourage teachers who wish to take our trainings to use our convenient Request Course Approval Form to request approval of our Online Professional Development or Regionally-Accredited University-Partner Academic Credit Courses for ongoing Alabama requirements OR Specific to Alabama: Use Supplement RCR form.
