An initial practitioner license is valid for 2 years and teachers must renew if they do not have two years of fulltime teaching experience. If not, teachers may renew and obtain a 5-year practitioners license by completing 6 hours of course work, completing a 90 point PGP (personal growth plan), or by passing a Pearson IN Core Content Area Exam. Please visit the Indiana Department of Education for more details.
Renewal Coursework (From Indiana Department of Education)
“Approved renewal coursework may include education courses and/or courses taken in one or more areas on the teaching license. Courses used for license renewal must be from a regionally accredited institution and must have been earned after the issue date of the license you are trying to renew. The licensing advisor at an Indiana institution can advise you about approved renewal courses at that institution. Renewal courses earned out-of-state do not need to be pre-approved as long as the coursework is earned in professional education or in one or more of the licensing areas. Renewal coursework may be either at graduate or the undergraduate level. However, if you hold an administrative license or a school services personnel license, graduate coursework is strongly encouraged.”
Model Teaching offers courses provided through regionally-accredited Humboldt State University and Seattle Pacific University. These institutions are accredited by WASC-ACSCU (The Western Association of Schools & Colleges) and NWCCU (Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities) respectively. Our University-Partnered Courses are acceptable for Indiana teacher license renewal and Professional Development requirement hours according to The Indiana Department of Education. All courses completed through our academic partners will include access to an official transcript from that academic institution for submission to any license-granting authority.
If you would still like to confirm approval of a course, please complete and mail our Request Course Approval form to the Indiana Department of Education.
