Regionally-Accredited Semester Credits
Model Teaching offers great options for Maine teachers to earn semester credits from accredited universities in order to renew or maintain their teaching certification.
Be sure to confirm your specific teaching license renewal requirements with your state or local license-granting authority prior to enrolling.
A Maine Provisional Teaching Certificate is valid for two years. Following the two year period, teachers can then apply for a Professional Teaching Certificate by meeting and completing the following professional development standards:
- Completing six semester credits of college study in each of your certification area(s)
- Teaching full time in Maine for the previous two years
- Completing the induction program for new teachers at your school
- Meeting the requirements of your individual Professional Certification Action Plan (PCAP)
- Receiving a positive recommendation for renewal from your school administrators.
A PCAP must be instituted with each level of certification attained (ex. Provisional to Professional).
During a PCAP you will be evaluated and needs/weaknesses will be identified and classroom performance observed at least three times over 6 years.
To apply for renewal of a Professional Certificate after five years, you must prepare and implement a renewal plan for six credits of approved study in each of your certification area(s).
Once you show that you have completed at least six credits in each of your certification area(s) and have met any additional educational requirements, you will be issued a Professional Certificate.
CREDITS:
One credit = one semester hour = 1.5 CEUs = 15 clock hours.
