Model Teaching offers great options for Tennessee teachers to earn clock hours for their relicensing needs. All completed courses will include a certificate of completion documenting earned hours.
Be sure to confirm your specific teaching license renewal requirements with your state or local license-granting authority prior to enrolling.
Tennessee teachers first must earn a Practitioner License which is valid for 3 years and may be renewed once. In order for the Practitioner License to be renewed, educators must have completed an approved educator preparation program and submitted passing scores on all required assessments (PRAXIS, etc.). A Professional License is valid for 6 years and can be renewed by completing 60 Professional Development Points (PDPs).
To advance from a practitioner license to professional license, teachers must:
- complete an approved educator preparation program
- submit passing scores on required content and literacy assessments;
- have three years of experience; and
- have a recommendation from the director of schools or documentation of 30 professional development points (PDPs).
To Renew a Professional License you must:
- Submit 60 professional development points
ACCEPTABLE PDPS
Tennessee allows for many different forms of PDPs, including Professional Learning (Clock hours), Continuing education (CEU credits), College/University credit and micro-credentials. You must include the course title, hours, and signature on an offical certificate. Model Teaching provides this with every course.
Professional Learning: 1 Clock Hour = 1 PDP
College/University Coursework: 1 Semester credit = 10 PDPs
Model Teaching offers professional development (clock hour) courses as well as university-partnered, academic credit courses provided through regionally-accredited university partners. Both our Professional Development, and University-Partnered Academic Credit courses do meet the requirements for Tennessee teacher license renewal and Professional Development requirements. All courses completed through our academic partners will include access to an official transcript from that academic institution for submission to any license-granting authority. All non-academic professional development courses taken through Model Teaching will include a certificate of completion, documenting your earned credit hours.
