Vermont Teaching Certificate Renewal & Professional Development Requirements
Hundreds of Vermont teachers utilize Model Teaching courses every year to earn academic credits for license renewal. All Model Teaching university-partnered courses provide graduate-level semester credit for license renewal or salary advancement purposes. You may choose any Model Teaching university-partnered courses of interest or enroll in one of our Course Bundle Packs – the most cost-effective way to earn credits.
Regionally-Accredited Semester Credits
Model Teaching offers great options for Vermont teachers to earn semester credits from accredited universities in order to renew or maintain their teaching certification.
Be sure to confirm your specific teaching license renewal requirements with your state or local license-granting authority prior to enrolling.
License Level I licenses are valid for 3 years. After 3 years, Level I licenses must be renewed and teachers must show 3 professional development credits for each endorsement area. At least one credit (or 15 hours) of new learning must apply directly to the knowledge and performance standards of the endorsement to be renewed. The remaining two credits need to fall within the Core Teaching and Leadership Standards for Vermont Educators.
License Level II licenses are valid for 7 years. For educators renewing a seven-year Level II license, each endorsement is required to have nine credits (or 135 hours) of new professional learning. At least three credits (or 45 hours) of new learning must apply directly to the knowledge and performance standards of the endorsement to be renewed.
The remaining six credits need to fall within the Core Teaching and Leadership Standards for Vermont Educators.
For educators renewing a five-year Level II license, each endorsement is required to have six credits or 90 hours of new professional learning. At least two credits (or 30 hours) of new learning must apply directly to the knowledge and performance standards of the endorsement to be renewed.
The remaining four credits need to fall within the Core Teaching and Leadership Standards for Vermont Educators.
APPROVED PROFESSIONAL LEARNING ACTIVITIES
Activates that qualify for professional development credits include:
- Academic courses
- Workshops, seminars, professional conferences
- State/National Education Activities
1 Professional Development Credit = 15 clock hours of an acceptable professional development activity
Model Teaching offers courses provided through regionally accredited university partners. These institutions are accredited by several accrediting agencies. Our Academic Credit University-Partnered Academic Credit courses should meet the requirements for Vermont teacher license renewal and Professional Development requirements. All courses completed through our academic partners will include access to an official transcript from that academic institution for submission to any license-granting authority. All non-academic professional development courses taken through Model Teaching will include a certificate of completion, documenting your earned credit hours.
