 30 ISBE Clock Hours

At the conclusion of this course, you will earn 30 ISBE clock hours, including a signed ISBE certificate.

Continuing Education hours through Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) are offered as ISBE clock hours and indicated as continuing education clock hours on a University provided certificate. Although offered in partnership with NEIU, they do not result in graduate- level or academic credit and cannot be used toward a degree program. These courses are primarily intended for recertification or re-licensure and continuing education for teachers in the state of Illinois.

Northeastern Illinois University is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. It is recognized as an approved provider of ISBE clock hours by the state of Illinois.

Section 2 – Clear Communication

  • Strategies for maintaining clear lines of communication
  • How to phrase both positive and constructive feedback about a student’s behavioral and academic progress
  • That communication is two-way and that families are a valuable source of information

Section 3 – Family Education

  • About the value of family education
  • That family education can cover child/teen development, safety issues, and targeted education about a child’s learning process and progress
  • Strategies to teach families how they can be an active partner in their child’s education at home

Section 4 – Special Events

  • Several ideas for fun events that can be easily planned to encourage family engagement
  • Several ideas for volunteer opportunities that will allow families to share their special gifts with the students

Section 5 – School Governance

  • The importance of involving families in issues of school governance, decision-making, and policy change
  • Specific strategies to implement to encourage that type of involvement

Section 6 – Overcoming Barriers

  • About potential barriers to parent engagement such as cultural differences, language barriers, and economic status that may impact a family’s level of engagement
  • Ways to address those issues so they do not impede genuine family engagement
