Your Nevada Teaching Licensure Renewal

Renewing your Nevada teaching license requires completing professional development through approved providers and submitting a renewal application through the Nevada Department of Education’s licensure system. While some professional learning may be available through your district, you may need additional training to meet Nevada’s renewal requirements.

Whether you are currently teaching or maintaining your license while not in the classroom, understanding Nevada’s renewal process helps you plan and complete your requirements on time.

Renewal Requirements

As of September 16, 2024, the Nevada Department of Education updated its renewal requirements to allow educators to renew a Standard or Professional teaching license by completing one of the following during each licensure period:

• 90 clock hours of professional development from an approved provider
• Six (6) semester credit hours of coursework
• An equivalent combination of clock hours and semester credit hours

What Type of Training Can You Take?

To count toward renewal in Nevada, professional development must be completed through an approved provider. Model Teaching is an approved provider through the Nevada DOE.

Examples of types of training that may count include:

• College/university courses related to teaching
• Asynchronous or synchronous online PD from approved providers
• Workshops, seminars, or school/district-provided professional learning
• Clock-hour or CEU-bearing activities tied to instructional practice

How Do You Renew?

Once you’ve completed the required 90 clock hours, 6 semester credits, or an approved combination:

1. Collect documentation. You will need your transcripts for college coursework, certificates, or attendance logs for PD hours.
2. Upload or submit documentation through Nevada’s licensure system (OPAL) before your license expires.
3. Pay the renewal fee as required by the Nevada Department of Education.
